HOUSING IS A HUMAN RIGHT! The Activism of Housing & Homelessness @ Open House
Mar 15 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

In collaboration with the Oxford Human Rights Festival we are hosting a panel of activists working tirelessly to remind us all that housing is a basic human right.

Sawsan Abu Zainedin is a Syrian architect and urban practitioner whose work and activism spans from Syria before the revolution to London and back again, exploring architecture as a tool of resistance in the rebuilding of Syria’s urban settlements.

Carla Ecola is the Founder and Director of The Outside Project, an LGBTQIA+ homelessness shelter in London and campaigns to highlight how disproportionally the LGBTQIA+ community are affected by homelessness.

Shabnam Sabir is a local activist and campaigner on homelessness, well know to people who are rough sleeping in her role as Founder of the Oxford Homeless Project and their fortnightly hot lunches. Shabnam’s was recognised for her activism and outreach by the Queen in this year’s New Year’s Honours List.

Our panelists will talk about what activism means to them and how together we can build a fairer housing system and better help those people that do fall into homelessness.
