Like to play with words? So do we! Come hang out with our poet-in-residence and have a go at some writing games, techniques and activities – or just curl up with a cup of tea and a book! We will have plenty of resources, materials, and poetry for you to get stuck into so just drop in – no need to register. The sessions run weekly on Wednesdays from 5 December between 10am and noon – and will carry on into the new year, too. Spread the word!

As housing ownership spirals out of reach of all but the wealthiest few, more people are renting for longer. In Oxford, the average person is now spending 55% of their income on rent, that’s too expensive. Renters include families, older people, and people with physical and mental health problems – groups that are ill-equipped to deal with the expense and precarity of the private rental market. Tellingly, a break down in a private rental agreement is now the single biggest cause of homelessness, responsible for over half of the cases in Oxford where a person has become homeless. Rent is

In collaboration with the Oxford Human Rights Festival we are hosting a panel of activists working tirelessly to remind us all that housing is a basic human right. Sawsan Abu Zainedin is a Syrian architect and urban practitioner whose work and activism spans from Syria before the revolution to London and back again, exploring architecture as a tool of resistance in the rebuilding of Syria’s urban settlements. Carla Ecola is the Founder and Director of The Outside Project, an LGBTQIA+ homelessness shelter in London and campaigns to highlight how disproportionally the LGBTQIA+ community are affected by homelessness. Empty shops are everywhere in Oxford. Peppered through the centre of our city; from Cornmarket Street to Little Clarendon Street and inside both The Covered market and even the Westgate. These voids in our city lie empty whilst people sleep rough, projects lack space and local businesses are strangled by extortionate rents. We, a group of concerned citizens are calling an open meeting at Open House, a community project currently using an empty shop on Little Clarendon Street on Wednesday 20th March. We’ll agree an agenda together on the day and welcome all people and all ideas. Initial ideas for
